These past few years have significantly changed the way we work, with many individuals working from home. Callzilla has a headquarters in Miami, FL, two sites in Bogotá, Colombia, as well as an extensive remote workforce. While there are several benefits to remote work, including increased flexibility, reduced commute time, and improved work-life balance, it can also be challenging to manage the isolation, loneliness, and stress that come with it. Studies have shown that having a pet can help to alleviate some of these issues and promote better mental health.

Callzilla celebrated National Love Your Pet Day this week on February 20th to recognize our furry friends that keep us sane during the day. It was a fun way to share a piece of our family with each other, and also celebrate the joys of working from home for a company that cares about your mental health as much as your productivity.

Pets have been shown to have numerous positive effects on mental health, including reducing stress and anxiety, providing companionship, and boosting mood. One of the main benefits of having a pet while working from home is the company they provide. Being alone for long periods can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness, which can negatively impact mental health, and therefore productivity.

Having a furry friend around can also help to reduce stress and anxiety levels. Studies have shown that petting an animal can lower cortisol levels, a hormone associated with stress. Additionally, simply having a pet around can help to decrease feelings of anxiety and promote feelings of calmness and relaxation. This can be especially beneficial during times of high stress or when facing challenging work tasks.

Another way pets can benefit mental health is by providing a sense of purpose and routine. When working from home, it can be easy to fall into a pattern of working irregular hours or neglecting self-care. However, having a pet that requires regular feeding, exercise, and attention can help to establish a routine and provide structure to the day. This can help to improve motivation, productivity, and overall mental wellbeing.

Pets can also promote physical health, which is closely linked to mental health. For example, walking a dog or playing with a cat can provide opportunities for exercise and fresh air, which can boost mood and reduce stress levels. It great for combatting any feelings of lethargy and promote a more active lifestyle, which can have positive impacts on both physical and mental health, especially getting those creative juices flowing. Juan Carlos Muñoz, Callzilla’s Senior Operations and IT Manager, created Morning Walking Meetings for his team for this very reason. It gets Callzilliers out of the office for meetings that have a more casual and creative nature, and sets everyone up for a productive and positive day.
